PS5 fans are angry because SSDs install complicated, annoying and expensive

Sony finally rolls the firmware update for the PS5, which enables the installation of an SSD memory expansion. For the time being only in the beta, but it probably does not take much longer until it is so far in the official version. However, the solution generally causes only little counter-love. Many fans are disappointed, confused, unsettled or simply angry, because the whole procedure is unnecessarily complicated and the SSDs are quite expensive on top of that.

SSD installation in PS5 is awkward and fans react annoyed

That's why: To install an SSD in your PS5, you must first find the right SSD. This is more difficult than expected because the SSD has to fulfill many requirements.

You need a PCIe 4.0 SSD with Heatsink, which still has to fit into the rather tight place of the PS5. How exactly does that matter and what specifications the SSD must have in this SSD article:

But not enough: so far, there is only one SSD, which was officially confirmed as compatible. But there should also be some other models. However, it looks immediately: The things are pretty expensive.

Only right if you want to expand the PS5 space not only by 500 GB. For 2 TB, around 500 euros are due, which corresponds approximately to the price of a complete PS5.

Fan reactions fall through: With many PS5 owners * inside it is not particularly good. Especially the prices encounter most of the acid.

But the complicated requirements nerves a whole lot of people. Who first found the right SSD in the right size, must then be around with the question of the right heatsink, which then must fit and should not be too high.

"Sony has not done a favor. If people install too slow SSD's, there will be a lot of swirls. I do not want to know how many consoles and SSD's will break, because the heat sink is missing."

Last but not least is the installation of the SSD also reasonably complex. Who bought the PS5 as a console so as not to screw around, should have been quite disappointed by this solution for memory expansion.

Above all, the unavoidable comparison with the Xbox Series S / X ** emerges again and again: Microsoft makes the memory expansion much easier. Like, for example, SSD-User Thenewage1990 writes:

In the meantime, REDDIT is mainly debated violently which SSDs fit into the PS5 and meet the minimum requirements. Currently, it looks that some theoretically wants to fit, among other things, the Samsung 980 PRO as well as the WD Black Sn850. There are currently no official confirmations for both SSDs.
