More and more shooters make cheats legally and sell them as special skills

Using the example of the new Hero Seer Inapex Legends, a umbrella trend in PVP shooters is revealed: legal cheats like Wallhacks sold as skills. But MeinMMO author and shooter fan Jürgen Horn finds: this is still like cheating and no one needs that!

What kind of cheats is that? The topic that just revites me are skills and items in competitive shooters that give a benefits in the game that work similar to hacks and cheats. Particularly frequent are features that are applicable as so-called Wallhacks.

Wallhacks are cheats with whom fraudulent players can see opponents through walls or reveal them on the minimap. Quasi everything that gives an advantage in the game by revealing and clearing opponents without great access and to determine their exact position.

All Hassen Wallhacks, but if it's a hero, is it ok?

In which games is this a problem? Unlike clear illegal hacks that let you look through walls, many shooter items or skills are now offering such advantages as part of the game mechanics. Here are a few examples:

  • In Apex Legends, the heroes of Bloodhound and the new character Seer opponents can see with skills through walls and even mark them for the whole team.
  • Valorant there are several heroes who uncover opponents through walls or otherwise reveal otherwise
  • COD has various reconnaissance drums that opponents reveal opponents on the map, there is a Perk, the opponents shows through walls, if you hit them at least once
  • In Overwatch, Widowmaker and Hanzo can detect enemies through walls

It is clear: Wallhack skills are a trend that can hardly escape a shooter.

Why is that a problem? Now you could say, Jo Mei, those are skills and items, you have to find it first or you can use it only limited and not wildly on it with a real hack.

Yes, clear, compared to real hacks, these skill hacks are certainly harmless, but they are still sensitive interventions in the gameplay of a shooter. For what distinguishes a good player from a noob, among other things, a seventh sense for the environment and the sense to penetrate into unknown territory and to enforce it against camper and unexpected enemy entries.

But if you can do everything with a simple mouse click, it takes a game a lot of his charm and who trains such skills cumbersome, is credited from each noob, which simply drain that as an automatic skill.

As a result, a total of the games are boring and stumbers, because nobody needs more sophisticated tactics to eliminate the opponent. You have his Legal Wallhack.

Incidentally, such skills are particularly disgusting in games where you can shoot through walls. Valorant with its infamous Wall-Bangs is a big one or COD Warzone, in which a certain combo opponent rearing behind walls.

What can you do about it? I would like to be honest if you would not have such Wallhacks and other cheat-like skills and items in competitive shooters. If it has to be absolutely, then such skills should either act very short or have very long decay times.

So it's probably also happening in Apex Legends, as the new Hero Seer had only such detection and wall hack skills and many fans were angry. Since the latest patch in mid-August, the cooldowns of his skills are now higher through the bank and the skills less effective. Nevertheless, a pure Wallhack Hero should not have put into play.

Fortunately, the developers at Apex have somehow viewed and communicated on Twitter. It remains to be hoped that you have learned your lesson and there will be a rethinking soon in other games.

What is your opinion on the topic? Do you find that such hacks have any existence or do you think it like me and says, That's going to get away, that's clear cheating!?

Also controversial are cheater monitors that give you crosshairs where none should be.
